Areas of interest and monuments

The city of Malaga is a typical-working and truly amazing historic city. Indeed, Malaga realized a huge investment restoring its historic quarters and total refurbishment to the Port. Malaga has taken its well deserved place amongst the “must visit” European cities.

The opening of the Picasso Museum in 2003, a former Palace and worthy of a visit in itself, as increased tourism to the city and there are also many other interesting historic monuments and museums such as the Baroque Cathedral, the Alcazaba, the Roman theatre, the Gibralfaro castle, the Pompidou museum, the Thyssen museum, the Russian museum, the automobile museum and others.

The AVE high-speed train, with several daily connections, opens up many new and varied opportunities from Malaga for, say, a one day excursion either for business or pleasure to amazing cities such as Madrid, Cordoba or Seville.

Pedregalejo is one of Malaga´s most attractrive and fashionable residential areas lying to the east of the City – appoximately a 15 minute drive along the coastal road. Once a traditional fishing village in its own right it still retains many of its former characteristics and charm.

This stunning, tranquil area has not been influenced by mass tourism and is truly “typically Spanish”. The Paseo Maritimo (Promenade) is pedestrianised
– which adds to the charm of the area.

Authentic fishermens´ cottages line the tiny, narrow alleys behind the numerous beach side “chiringuitos” – beach-side restaurants - and the beach is dotted with small fishing boats. A common sight in the early hours is the return of the boats to the bay and the fishermen mending their nets on the beach after the night´s catch.

The Chiringuitos in this area serve wonderfully fresh fish and seafood and the area itself is renowned throughout Spain for the quality of dishes. From the terraces of these restaurants there are stunning views across to the bay of Malaga and out to the crystal waters of the Mediterranean.

Opened in February 2012, “Muelle Uno” is situated on the brand new Malaga Marina in the heart of the city.

This new quay is a large open shopping centre with a large selection of shops, restaurant, and café.
